SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to exchange protected info between a client and a website hosting server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy users favor SSH because of the higher level of security. The connection is made and the commands are sent via a command line. The offered options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files could be relocated or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives can be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the options are significantly more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be set up and more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, since full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server would be affected. Although SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, etc.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If the website hosting plan which you’ve chosen during the signup process includes SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this function with only a mouse click from your Hepsia Control Panel. In case you have picked a different package, the SSH access function may be included through the Upgrades menu and it shall become available straightaway. The information you need to connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same spot and you'll be able to change it at any time. All commands which are permitted are listed within the Help articles which we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you must use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you will be able to add it from the hosting CP if required - even only for the current month. In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you will see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you can type the password that you would like to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you may also change it as frequently as you want. A full list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports such connections.
